Tara Goodwin Frier started her own public relations company in October, 2001. She brings to her firm more than 20 years of experience in media relations, public affairs, public policy and broadcast journalism.
She has worked with a variety of clients on media management and crisis communications issues, including: the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR), operator of Boston's commuter rail service for the MBTA; Connex, an international transportation company; Veolia Environnement; Long's Jewelers, Strata Bank; The Executive Office of Elder Affairs, law firms Rubin and Rudman and Sullivan & Worcester; Johnson & Johnson; Ipsen and Hersheys.
Before starting The Goodwin Group, she served as Vice President of Edelman Public Relations' Boston office where she managed an active portfolio of clients, and executed Boston media strategies for Edelman's national and international accounts including: IDA Singapore; Barnes & Noble; Belgian energy company, Tractebel, Inc.; Schering-Plough; Morgan Stanley; JAFCO Ventures and YouthBuild U.S.A. Frier was also the lead strategist for the state's education reform (MCAS) campaign. Her contributions to Barnes & Noble's Close the Book on Hate campaign helped Edelman score a Silver Saber award for best retail marketing initiative.
Prior to this position, Frier served as chief of staff of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development where she managed a staff of 250 and a budget of $450 million. In addition, she worked to develop an affordable housing policy designed to help alleviate the Massachusetts housing crisis, wrote and edited all agency RFP's, managed contractors and served as a member of the Governor's Commission on Domestic Violence.
Frier also worked for this department as communications director and managed all media coverage for the agency. She was responsible for speechwriting, planning and developing media events.
She possesses significant experience in television news, and has worked as a reporter for Neighborhood Network News and as a writer/producer and assistant to the news director for WBZ television in Boston.
Frier began her career in Massachusetts state government, serving as a grants manager for the Massachusetts Historical Commission and as assistant director for the office of State House Tours and Government Education.
She is a 1986 graduate of Boston University and holds a Bachelors Degree in Broadcast Journalism with minor concentrations in Political Science and English Literature. Frier continues to further her education at seminars and courses pertinent to her career. She resides in Sharon, Massachusetts with her husband Ted, sons T.J. and Will.
